Request for train stop at platform No.1 in Ambur

In Ambur Railway station, Chennai based trains stop at Platform No.2 and Bengaluru based trains at Platform No.3. No train stops at Platform No.1. Elderly and handicapped persons find it very difficult, to say the least, to cross the railway tracks or climb the over-bridge to reach Platform No.2 or 3 or come to Platform No.1 from these Platforms  after landing from trains. There is no arrangement at all for helping the elderly and handicapped people.

Ambur is a world famous industrial centre for leather and leather products like shoes. Overseas customers, chemical dealers, shoe material suppliers and others make frequent visits to Ambur. They all face much inconvenience and difficulties.

Many have got injured and some have even lost their lives while crossing the railway tracks. 

The authorities concerned may kindly look into this important matter, do the needful for stoppage of trains at Platform No.1 and save people from much hardship and accidents which are witnessed quite often.

CHENNAI LEATHER MARKET

Slight improvement was seen in the Chennai leather market but activities were restricted. Leading exporters of leather and leather goods showed interest for tanned goat skins - 5/8 sq. ft. Run was sold at around Rs.105 whereas 4/6 sq. ft. V/IF/LIF combined fetched at around Rs.55 per sq. ft. There is no report of any sale in 5/8 sq. ft. V, IF and LIF. However tanners are quoting Rs.75, 65 and 55 per sq. ft. respectively for the same. There was also a sale reported in 5/8 sq. ft. DLIF at Rs.51 per sq. ft.

Other tanned goat items like Suede and Lining in 4/6 sq. ft. were sold at around Rs.38 and 34 per sq. ft. and 5/8 sq. ft. Lining at around Rs.38 per sq. ft.  

Local items Rejection and Langda were sold at around Rs.12 and 8 per sq. ft. respectively. Some tanners sold Langda at Rs.110 per kg. 

Tanners feel that there is somewhat increased demand in these local items and expect that demand may increase in the coming month of the new year 2019.

Prices of raw goat skins are down at around Rs. 30 per piece in almost all centres in Andhra Pradesh as quality is bad whereas sheep Potla and Mendi are available at around Rs.90 and 40 per piece. Some good qualities of the same are fetching higher prices. 

Generally speaking prices of raw goat and sheep skins are erratic at the raw skin centres throughout the country. Tanners buy only better quality and better grade skins. There are no takers at all for lower selections. 

Export Business

Due to Christmas and New Year holidays business was slow in goat upper and lining leathers. Exporters believe that in the new year 2019 volume of business as well as prices may increase. They say that the present prices are not workable at all. The usual prices some exporters are able to get are at around US $ 2.25 and 1.70 per sq. ft. for Goat Upper and Lining leathers.
