IN DEFENCE OF BURQA

IN DEFENCE OF BURQA

There is no Islamic taker to the view expressed by French President Sarkozy that the burqa is unquestionably an oppressive garment that seeks to keep those who wear it imprisoned “behind a screen”. In fact the burqa protects a woman and gives her a place of dignity. The Westerner who does not find hot pants or bikinis objectionable cannot understand the importance of the burqa. It is believed that the legislation approved by the French National Assembly to ban the burqa is not likely to be passed in its Parliament. The ban is against human rights.
