Leather market is almost the same in activities. Demand for tanned goat and sheep skins is not continuous. Exporters of leather and leather goods buy only when they have orders for them. They don’t want to buy goods to be kept in stock as they did till some months ago.
Run in tanned goat skins 4/6 sq. ft. fetches at around Rs.95 and Lots without Rejection Rs.60 per sq. ft. while V/IF combined and Lining were sold at around Rs.57 and 40 per sq. ft. respectively. Rejection and Langda sales were at around Rs.13 and 9 per sq. ft. Tanners are finding it difficult to sell their lower selections.
Qurbani raw goat and sheep skins prices in different Indian Centres were erratic. Generally speaking raw sheep skins were sold at prices ranging from Rs.80 to 120 and raw goat skins from Rs.25 to 30 per piece as it is without salted. In some places there were no buyers for raw goat skins. It is reported that raw hides were sold at around Rs.250 per piece. Exact report is not available.
In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh raw goat and sheep skins prices were as follows: Goat from Rs.25 to 35 and Sheep from Rs.80 to 100 per piece. However at Centres like Miraj where raw goat skin quality is good prices were much higher depending on quality and selection. As some of closed tanneries have been reopened in Kanpur, it is reported there were rise in prices of quality goat skins and hides. There were no takers for Rejection items.
Export Contracts
Only some regular items meant for shoes are of interest to overseas customers at unchanged prices at around US $ 2.25 and 1.75 per sq. ft. for goat upper and lining leathers.
Hong King and Singapore customers are very slow in business whereas Japanese customers are almost absent in the market. As usual some shoe companies in places like Ambur are able to do well getting orders from different overseas customers with their best efforts.

5/7 sq. ft. All Suede JY 185, LIF Suede JY 150 and Rejection Suede JY 95
S/C sheep leather
Leading exporters have stopped producing this item as there is no demand and stocks cannot be held for long without sale particularly in the present tight market.
